Student is Given a New Grip On Life With a Bionic Hand!
19 year old Evan Reynolds has regained his hold through the use of an i-LIMB, a $15,000 robotic prosthetic developed by the Scottish company Touch Bionics. Multiple sensors attached to Reynold’s arm muscles pick up signals which in turn control the hand. Within minutes Reynolds was able to effectively control the gripping and individual fingers. The hand is able to sense pressure and allow for greater control and gentleness of touch. He is the second person in the UK to be fitted with an i-LIMB.
We’re on the way my friends! Artificial hearts, hips, eyes, arms and legs… all of these scientific advancements are heading in one direction: unification of man and machine. People and Pentiums (hopefully running a Mac OS).
One day, no more crippled people, no more wheelchairs. No more blind, no more def. Science will find ways to fix us. Science will find ways to make us better. We’ll have replacement limbs. Enhanced hearing, and vision. We will interface with computers.
The human race will see a day when people can live indefinitely. That is, if we don’t kill ourselves out of ignorance, stupidity and greed first.
The answers lie in science and discovery…
