Do you know where you’re going to?
The Cosmic Pirate Radio Show Part 4
While preparing my lunch this morning — a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, some celery sticks and two chocolate chip cookies — I picked up a special broadcast of my Cosmic Pirate Radio Show.
This morning the mental DJ was spinning Diana Ross singing the theme to Mahogany. I Never did see the movie but I did see the trailer a few times, along with other film clips — The Sting, Three Days of the Condor, Tommy — that my father would splice together for Saturday night family movie time.
We did get the occasional feature length film. I remember the humming and clicking of the 16mm projector, the flickering of the frames. Moving picture magic.
“Do you know where you’re going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to?”
Unbeknownst to my friendly, neighborhood, cosmic radio host, these lyrics had been playing their way in and out of my head since I first heard them. Wait — come to think of it, that would have been my cerebral DJ playing it all these years! I wonder why he (or she) chose to replay that particular selection every so often?
Maybe those words are supposed to be a reminder to me. When I hear them in my head I tend to take them literally, and actually consider the questions and how they relate to my life.
The words of that song prompt me to reflect on my life — where it’s been and where it’s going to. Do you have your own cosmic radio show that steers you through life with choice selections? Sometimes the tunes seem random, and may serve as background music most of the time, but could there be a soundtrack to your life, playing along behind the scenes to remind you of where you’ve been, and where you’re going?
Food for thought.
Now the tune has changed… Devo, “Whip It.” What could that have to do with anything?
Well, here’s sailing through the sea of life by the stars, and listening to our celestial tuner along the way. Until the Cosmic Pirate Radio Show has gone off the air… Keep rocking.
