So I'm watching the news last night and I hear a story about Hot 97, a radio station in New York City. A DJ spun a song that makes a mockery of the plight of tsunami victims and those who lost their lives in that tragedy. The song also uses racist terms and pokes fun at Asian people in general. This is totally unacceptable! Does anyone harbor a hint of decency anymore?
This is completely despicable behavior, and these DJ's should at least be fired. I recommend fining them for this misconduct.
Radio airwaves seem to have become a haven for hacks and ignorant jerks. They spoil this medium that still serves as an outlet for decent broadcasting, but good stuff doesn't sell too well anymore, only sex, perversions and degredation appeal to the society at large. Gives you an idea of where we're headed.
I don't listen to radio that often anymore, and from what I can tell I'm obviously not missing much. I used to listen to Howard Stern when I was younger, grew out of that. Then I listened to the Grease Man, a syndicated program from California, then I grew out of that.
Once I actually tuned in to Opie and Anthony, only to hear a song contest during which they aired a clip from a song about molesting and raping young girls. And nothing was done about that! Instead they were thrown off the air for a contest that prompted couples to have sex in public places. One couple chose St. Patrick's Cathedral for their stunt. That get's attention, but not a song about molesting kids. I think the FCC should pay closer attention to what's going on. Guess the jocks only got a slap on the hand for that "oversight."
I wonder what their parents were like? These people obviously never received any discipline. They were never taught right from wrong. So now they live their lives like big, stupid children, acting inappropriately, ultimately scolded by the FCC, if they even step in.
There used to be honor in broadcasting, in entertainment, ask any older broadcast professional that has spent a significant part of their lives in the business. It was respectable. Now we have morons with half a brain sitting in the DJ chair talking about things that shouldn't even be thought, let alone uttered. And what do you know, the ratings go up! That's a sad commentary on where the collective public conscience is.
It's sadder still that radio DJ's have an influence on their audience, and that potential is being wasted on sick commentary, and racism. They make a nasty smear on the face of decency.
And if they're busted they'll shout about their right to free speech, yet they'll strip the rights off of anyone else without a second thought while they're "on the air."
Now that's Rotten Radio!
