Must Be On Top of the World!

For the past several mornings I've been stepping out of the shower with "Top of the World" from the Carpenters playing through my head. On my own I wouldn't have added this song to the playlist of my cerebral radio, but there it is. My brain must be on shuffle, playing through anything it can remember from the past 37 years. But lately it's been stuck on this one, and now it's gone even further, this dang song is sticking with me ALL DAY!

Maybe some cosmic radio broadcast has pirated the Drew Vics frequency and is trying to put some otherwise unplayed hits into rotation in my brain. All I know is, as a result of this mystery brain song, I've been feeling pretty good about myself, fairly upbeat and optimistic. I feel that my confidence level has increased, and the future certainly does look bright.

I guess it's as good a time as any to feel this way. My wife and I have sold our house and will be leaving the first home we've made together. We're stepping into unfamiliar territory (a new house) and leaving the place where we've made some wonderful memories and grew together as a couple. It's been a stressful time for us.

Feeling like I'm on top of the world isn't such a bad thing. I wonder what song my wife has had running through her head? I know what songs she has playing in her car because I hear the bass thump as she pulls into the driveway, but I don't hear any thumps from her noggin as she walks by, maybe it's a mellow number like mine, with little percussion to vibrate the brain case.

Just as well, her brain is rattled enough with all the moronic hoopla she has to deal with at work plus all the stress of moving, not to mention dealing with a guy like me on a regular bassis.

There is something to be said for brain radio. Sometimes the worst song of all gets stuck in there -- like the time I had "Love after Love" by Cher running through my head one morning. Had to shut that one off quick -- but sometimes you hear a real winner. A song that changes the way you feel about yourself and the way you see the world.

Music can be like magic, soothing the savage beast, calming the nerves, driving away stress, motivating and inspiring. If there's a playlist in my brain that affects the way I live my life I hope it only plays the good stuff. I'd hate to wake up with "Dust in the Wind" playing in my head. Not much hope there.
