Getting Married

Well, this is it. I'm taking that Big Step! On July 6th, my Fiancé and I will be married. I'm looking forward to it, not just because we'll be married on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, but also because I love her and really want to solidify this relationship. She will be my significant other. I will honor her.

Is that hard to comprehend? That I actually love her and am looking forward to joining our lives in matrimony?

Some people have congratulated me, some have shared their joys of being married and tell me it's a wonderful thing. But I still get the usual, "Don't do it!", "Hey, another one bites the dust!", or the classic "Your life's over pal."

Therein lies the fuel for this months observation (aka: rant)... read on.

I'm all for a good joke. I'll yuk it up with the best of them. But I get steamed when I hear people make a joke out of something important to me. Sure, I could shrug it off, but I won't. If someone tells me "I'm biting the dust," though it is used without true malice, I still take offense to it because I'm not biting the dust. It's an insult to my fiancé! My life is not over, it's just beginning!

It seams that most of contemporary America has forgotten, or doesn't even care, about a true love relationship. That's sad. I think most people don't want to commit to love because it means they have to put themselves aside, and let's face it we're a selfish bunch! But putting ourselves aside for our loved one is the key to a really successful relationship.

My fiancé and I have our moments, but we do consider the other in all our plans. We are selfish for us, not one for oneself.

Someone told me "don't do it," and I replied "You obviously don't know my fiancé."

The institute of marriage get's knocked all too often. Hey, open your eyes folks, we wouldn't be here (and this society wouldn't have such structure) if it wasn't for family! Noticed how our society is becoming unruly? That speaks volumes of our unruly citizens. We're all out for number one, and we're only looking for something that makes us feel good. It's me, me, me and eventually we'll lose the team. This could take us down several other biways so I'll return to the main subject of this observation.

I will not step lightly into this new role. I'll be a happy husband, and enjoy a happy life. I'm looking forward to many, many years of love, fun and happiness with my future wife. Oh, I know there will be bad times, we've already had some of those and we made it. We will be cautious, but we will still enter the future with a smile, many prayers, and faith.

I can hear the steel drums already...
