Today my thoughts are with those in the deep south -- Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida -- who have been left with devestation in the wake of hurricane Katrina. Tropical storm names are reused after a period of time, unless the storm develops into sufficiently damaging hurricanes. Katrina is a name we won't be hearing again. Most of us are separated from the situation by distance, watching coverage on TV or listening on the radio, but some are closer. Some have lost family members and friends in this disaster. Still, any compassionate person taking in the scenes of flooding, demolished homes, and upset lives can't help but feel the pain. I watched the news as a man was quickly interviewed about the destruction to his home, now barely recognizable amid the water and debris. He was asked, "Who was with you in the house?" "My wife." "And where is she now?" "We can't find her body. She gone." And he began to cry. One question remains. What now? Where will these people live, and how will they rebuild their lives after such tragedy? They need our help to recover. Let's pull together as a nation, and a world, to help these people put their world back together. Through the American Red Cross you can be a part of the effort to help the victims of this and other disasters. Vist RedCross.org and lend a hand. My sympathy to all who have been affected by this natural distaster.
