Monday Morning You Sure Look Fine...

Monday morning, January 30, 2006. In the middle stages of a lowsy head cold, brain doesn't want to function, muddling through the morning routine at work and the Cosmic Pirate Radio Show is spinning the Jackson Five. Don't know where that one came from but I wish they'd play something else.

"Oh baby give me one more chance!"

Well at least Michael Jackson was cute then. Don't know what happened to him but I wish he'd have left his face alone. Everytime I see a photo of him I'm perplexed, bewildered, shocked. There has got to be something very deeply rooted there that caused him to change his appearance so drastically. Complete disfigurement or medical reasons aside, I don't think there is any reason for anyone to alter the way they look.

You can say it's vanity, but the way most of these people turn out it just can't possibly be. Attractive women have changed themselves into hideous walking barbie zombies. Why? It has to be psychological. It's sad that the plastic surgeons don't refuse to do these jobs. And what's worse is they'll keep manipulating the skin again and again, visit after visit. Can't they see what distortions of humanity they're creating?

A little tuck here and there I can see, but we've got some downright spooky faces walking around out there folks.

It's rumoured that Michael Jackson's nose won't even stay on by itself and he has to use some sort of adhesive. I don't know how true that is, but I can't imagine living a life like that.

For a while my wife and I tuned-in to that Extreme Makeover show where they pluck people from their average lives and put them through a regimen of workouts, diets, and also plastic surgery to "enhance" and "improve."

In some cases we couldn't see anything drastically wrong with the people in the first place. In fact, most had a quality of character which made them unique and attractive in their own way. They needed no surgical assistance, but in the end they come out looking like some made up plastic-faced models ready for the runway and a photo shoot.

But that's not who they are. That's not real life. Will these people, especially the guys, be dabbing on makeup every morning before they head off to work? Will they be able to maintain the diet and work out schedule on their own? Will they be happy?

Funny that the TV show doesn't follow-up with them months or years later to see how they're doing.

I bet in most cases it's just a chapter in their lives that opens and closes, makes them happy for a little while, then they have to return to the real world and take responsibility of their new look. Some will do it, others won't be able to find the time between work and family to keep it up. And what for? It's not like they'll be attending any awards shows or posh parties.

Well, there's my thought for the morning. My Pirate Radio has gone off the air, thank God. Unfortunately I forgot my headphones today so I'm bound to be graced with another random selection from my ethereal DJ. Can't wait. Maybe it'll be something good.

Have a great week! Or as great as can be expected.
