You may have heard that charged anthem on a few Suzuki car commercials, if you could make out the words. At first I thought I would become tired of it like so many other commercial jingles. Well, I liked the rhythm and the overall energetic sound of the tune even though I didn't know what was being said at first. Then I heard the song again while watching the movie "Fun with Dick and Jane." I just thought it was a great sound. I had absolutely no clue who performed it either, so how did I find out? I did a quick Internet Movie Database search (gotta love IMDB.com) for Fun wth Dick and Jane, and luckily someone had posted a comment about this song called "Alive and Amplified" from a group called The Mooney Suzuki. Had to find it, so I did a quick search of the iTunes music store (gotta love iTunes) and downloaded it, along with a few other songs from the same band. Fun, simple rock 'n roll for the most part, but there's something about the phrase "Alive and Amplified" that we can apply to life. It implies energy, confidence, determination, a sense of pride and exhilaration. "Alive and Amplified" should be every human's motto. Feel good, feel proud, feel confident. Too often it's a tall order. Women and children are beaten, raped, tortured and killed in places like Darfur. Women and children are being exploited right here in the United States. People are homeless; people face troubled roads ahead because of disease or disorders. Life isn't easy, and it's not so easy to be alive and amplified. But for those of us who can help the others, we need to be charged and full of passion. We need to be amplified. The song says, "Turn me on and turn me up and turn me loose!" I say let's turn ourselves up and turn ourselves loose to help out and make a positive impact in the world. Become alive and amplified in whatever you may undertake to make a difference. Be Alive. Be Amplified!
