Happy Holiday Shopping

Hey folks. Well, Christmas is quickly closing in on us. Hope you have all of your holiday shopping done. Or most of it. Or none of it.

You know, this whole gift exchange tradition has gotten way out of hand. Sometimes I feel worse around the holidays than I do the rest of the year because there's this looming cloud of guilt hanging over me. I feel like I never buy the right thing, or don't buy enough to compare with the stuff I receive during the holidays.

I don't think that's what the spirit of this season is all about, and I'm probably not the only person who feels that way.

The only people who seem to benefit around the holidays are the retailers, who quite frankly, don't give a rats ass about us. They only care about the bottom line, MONEY.

And to be quite honest, A lot of us do not have the extra money to spend on a ton of presents.

But all we do is run around like maniacs looking for presents, clobbering each other. Some people have even died racing for those Black Friday Deals. We're getting farther away from the intended reason for the holiday, which we don't even understand in the first place!

We just believe what the minsters and priests tell us, buy what the department stores sell us, and never try to understand for ourselves. We follow the Joneses, go through the motions, and most of us never seem to get anywhere.

I love the holidays. But I don't love them because of church, or presents. What I love most about them is spending time and having fun with family and friends. I like looking at the pretty lights and decorations on the houses I pass on my way home from work. Home to my family. Home to my life.

This year I will get a few things for my wife, a thing or two for my friends and other family members. I will try not to feel guilty about what I buy, or what I don't buy. But I'm sure that cloud will follow me around anyway. It's touch to shake it. Tough to shrug off the feeling of obligation.

So, here's to you and yours. May you have a special holiday, and get all the damn goodies you want! : )

Happy Holidays!
