So why do we go through life in the first place? Aside from the obvious I mean. We're born, we live, we die. What's the point of that? I'm not sure there's even an answer, because if you really, really think about it, there doesn't have to be an answer. In reality this is not some big test that we're going to be quizzed on when we die. It's not a big premeditated reality-show challenge meant for us to overcome, though if you want to have any sort of satisfaction in your life it is indeed a challenge nonetheless. No matter how much some people struggle in their lives they may ultimately end up getting whacked by a semi as they cross the street — in the wrong place at the wrong time — and the story is over, no more challenge, no more chances, no more love, no more laughs, no more of anything most of the rest of us we here on earth appreciate about life. Gone. Poof! And then the driver of the semi has a new challenge to add to his life: Living with the weight of taking someone else's life. Accidentally pulling them out of the game. The game. I guess if we simplify it we can look at life as a game. It's a race too. The rat race. Are we all just following our noses through the maze looking for cheese? If that's all we are no wonder we need to make it so goal oriented and apply some higher reward. We're all messed up. Life is like a parade too. For some reason we feel the need to build the best float and wear the best costumes so everyone can look upon us with favor. Do we really need the approval or acceptance of others to successfully live a fulfilling life? No. The only person that needs to be satisfied with your life is you, because ultimately you're the one who is going to have to say goodbye to it. So you may as well enjoy yourself while you're here and try to live as happily as you can. It doesn't pay to be sad, there isn't enough time for that. Do the math. I just turned 40 years old, that means I've been outside of mom for about 14,600 days. Will I live to be 80? Will I have at least another 14000 days left, or less? I don't know. Nobody knows, and that includes those psychic charlatans who seem to be popping up in every town across America lately (Why do we fall for such nonsense? That's a topic for another day). Like so many have said before, life is too short. Isn't is time we just live? Do what makes you happy, follow your dreams. Live the best life you desire because you really do only get one chance. If you think about it, and I mean face the facts and finally admit it, there is no life after death. Why would we entertain the idea of an eternal life and then tell everyone, "Welp, you only live once."? That makes no sense at all. Either you believe it or you don't. But keep in mind that believing in something doesn't make it so. I find no solace in believing in some fairytale land with streets of gold and unlimited everything, including eternal happiness. Have you ever seen those perpetually happy people? No one can possibly be happy all the time. It's called fooling yourself. Delusion. I'd much rather live in reality. Sometimes I do get mad. Sometimes I am sad. It's natural to experience those feelings, even though I think we shouldn't dwell on them. As I struggle through some trying times I try to keep one thought in mind... we need to live, and be happy. It's easier to let someone go if you realize that the only chance they have to be truly happy is in living the life they choose. It's not like they're getting hit by a semi. They're just moving on with their life. There is still time to love, laugh and smile. Live. That's why it's called life.
