Good brain, bad brain

This is a true "Holy Cow! What's this world coming to?" moment for me. This morning (1-30-03) on my way into work I heard a startling news broadcast. A husband and his wife kept his mother locked up in the basement of their home with no running water, no toilet, because his wife didn't like her mother-in-law.

Now, on occasion I have some reservations regarding certain people. That's a nice way to put it. At no time have I ever entertained the thought of locking them in my basement! Or locking them anywhere for that matter. We're people! You don't do that to people! You shouldn't lock up any living thing. Okay, prisoners are locked up, but they've commited a crime and get three square meals each day, and have running water.

There are visuals to this story that I won't share, they paint a very inhumane picture. You can find the story on the internet yourself I'm sure. I heard it on 1010 WINS so you can find it on their site perhaps.

What flashed through my head first was "how can someone do this to someone else." Then it really hit me and I thought "he locked up HIS MOTHER in the basement because his wife didn't like her!"

If my wife even suggested that I keep my Mother in the basement she'd be out in the cold. I Iove my wife, but my Mother is my Mother! No question, she get's top billing. Luckily I married a wonderful lady who loves my Mom, couldn't have asked for a better wife. And my Mother-in-law? Love her too.

When does a human brain make a left at logic and end up in lunacy? Lord knows. I like reading the signs and keeping myself on track.

You think when this guy's wife suggested they lock his mother in the basement he would have noticed a big flashing beacon that said "WACKO!" Guess he was just as wacko as she was.

I don't even think it's all logic that should be at work here. How about just plain decency? Compassion for humanity? I can think of several phrases that would colorfully illustrate my feelings regarding this type of story, but we have to keep it clean on myeyez.net so "Holy Cow!" will have to do.
